Girls Incorporated of Taunton

Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart & bold…

Love of Life 2013

On Thursday, November 7th, 2013 Girls Incorporated of Taunton celebrated the life of former Board of Trustees Vice President, Darlene Costa Brown at the second annual Love of Life Event.

Costa Brown’s impact on Girls Inc. and its members was felt through her volunteer instruction of the Economic Literacy curriculum and her service on the Board of Trustees.  As vice president, Darlene hoped to lead the organization in shaping a future that was both secure and dynamic.  Her enthusiasm and fierce dedication for enriching the lives of the members continues to infuse the mission and aids in carrying on her life’s work.

In tribute to Costa Brown, Girls Inc. of Taunton honored Michele Monteiro for her dedication to their mission and her parallel love of life.  Monteiro demonstrates a fierce commitment to providing opportunities to local girls and always exudes a vibrant spirit. Monteiro was also recognized for her service as Board of Trustees President from 2008-2010 when she displayed leadership through commitment and service.

Family, friends and colleagues of both Michele and Darlene joined together at Girls Inc. of Taunton to celebrate Costa Brown’s Life, Monteiro’s service, and the presentation of the Dr. Darlene Costa Brown Leadership Scholarship.  The award, recognizing the exceptional leadership skills and the innate qualities that inspire others to be strong, smart and bold, was presented to Andersyn Bishop.  This year, Andersyn will work with leadership staff and board members in mentoring her in her mission to inspire world peace by starting small to create a more tolerant and kinder generation.

Highlights of the event included the sharing of last year’s Dr. Darlene Costa Brown Leadership Scholar, Sophia Branco’s experience in her role; a citation presented by State Representative Shaunna O’Connell recognizing Michele Monteiro’s commitment to service and leadership; and a citation presented by State Representative Keiko Orrall recognizing Andersyn Bishop’s exceptional leadership skills.
