On Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 Girls Incorporated of Taunton proudly honored Debbie Araujo, as the 2012 Woman of Achievement. Araujo, was recognized for her work as advocate for families and children in need throughout her 32-year career in human services and her development of the Operation Christmas Program.
Araujo began her career as a young parent who volunteered for Project Head Start when she was asked to take on a temporary, six-week position at Citizens for Citizens. Now in her 32nd year with the organization, she rose through the ranks to the position of office manager. She is most recognized for her liaison work within the city and the region, aligning with a number of social service and human service agencies. Through her outreach, she was able to develop Operation Christmas into a communitywide program.
Family, friends, business associates, organization representatives and supporters of Girls Inc. of Taunton joined together at the Stoneforge Restaurant in Raynham to celebrate Araujo’s service as a positive role model and dedicated member of the Taunton community. Highlights of the event included a citation presented by honorable Mayor Thomas Hoye Jr. and a resolution issued by State Senator Marc Pacheco along with and accolades and roasting by guest speakers, Elizabeth Berube, Robert Barboza, Gill Enos and Eva Gaffney.
