Volunteers play a vital role at Girls Inc. of Taunton working alongside staff members and other volunteers. Each month, we will select a Volunteer of the Month who demonstrates: a dedication to our mission, the ability to inspire and a genuine joy for giving back. If you’d like to volunteer at Girls Inc., please contact Ashley Vieira at 508-824-9511 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteer of the Month for November is Erika Bradley!
Erika, a proud mom of three and a foster parent of two, joined Girls Inc. as the volunteer cooking instructor two years ago. She comes to Girls Inc. every Monday to create a new recipe with our members. Her recipes are focused on leading healthy and nutritious lifestyles while engaging and encouraging the girls to be creative with and experimenting with new tastes. “No one in class is allowed to say they “hate” something until they’ve taken at least one bite. How often I experience the satisfaction of seeing the amazement in a young girl’s expression that has realized she actually likes something she never thought she would!”
One of the things that Erika enjoys most about volunteering at Girls Inc. is “the enthusiasm with which I’m greeted each week and the feedback I get from the girls after they’ve tried the new recipe. It’s very rewarding to know that I’m contributing to a lifelong awareness of healthy eating.”
Teaching has always been a passion of Erika’s, whether it’s cooking, dance or languages. She’s an advocate for sharing what she has with others; whether it’s knowledge, talent or material possession.
And of course our members love Miss Erika! In the words of one her students, “Miss Erika is super nice! She teaches me a lot about different foods and always tells us what’s in foods. We make things that are super healthy and I want to be healthy too!”
