AMELIA’S STORY

Amelia McQuiggan, 17

Girls Inc. Alumnae, DCB Scholar, & Current Direct Care Staff Member

“When I was 10, I applied for the Dr. Darlene Costa Brown Scholarship, and I got it. This moment helped me grow because I was presented opportunities that I would not have had without the scholarship I got to explore my desired career path, form new connections, and expand my knowledge of the world. I discovered new occupations and was introduced to people who became role models that I still look up to today. Girls Inc. has given me an advantage when it comes to succeeding in life, and they have been building me into a strong woman since I was 8 years old. I wanted to become a staff member because I always looked up to the staff when I came to Girls Inc. and wanted to be just like them.”

BRIANNE’S STORY

Brianne Yelle, 42

Director of Data Governance at Franklin Sports

“Girls Inc. set a foundation for me as a young female, it taught me confidence, how to stand up for myself and that as a female I could do anything I set my mind to. I learned so many life skills from this program that I still use today. II have spent most of my career working in the sporting goods industry which is a very male dominant workspace. I have been able to grow in my career over the years and I am proud to say that although I work with so many males, I am a very powerful voice and leader for our company. A lot of what I learned from my parents and Girls Inc. has played a huge part in my success.  It also was a program that I knew that if someday I had girls they would attend here. I am happy to say as a mother of 2 girls ages 16 and 12 that they both attended Girls Inc. and I will forever be thankful for that opportunity.

Girls Inc. taught my girls, self-confidence and self-love which is so important these days but most importantly it taught my girls that they have a voice and that they can do anything they set their mind to. Both my girls have so many great memories like I do of Girls Inc., and it is something that till this day I talk about with friends and family. I tell anyone I know that has a daughter/daughters to do themselves a favor and enroll your daughter in Girls Inc., you will never regret it. Girls Inc. has a huge piece of my heart.”
